Rainy Day Procedure

The field marshals should arrive at the field at least one hour prior to the first game.  Each field should be surveyed and determined as playable or not. Rain itself is not enough to cancel games for the day.   If a field has significant amounts of standing water, that field should be considered unplayable.  If there is thunder or lightning, the whole complex should be considered unplayable. To avoid confusion, the entire complex should be opened or closed as a whole in the morning.

As decisions are made and/or changed, the webmaster must be notified in order to update the NSYSA website.  An update time stamp should be noted on the site so that parents checking in can be sure that they are seeing updated information.

If the field marshals determine the fields unplayable, then the fields are marked closed on the website, corner flags will be removed, and no games will be played for the remainder of the day.  If the field marshals determine the fields are playable, then the fields are marked open on the website and games will be played.  As the day goes on, if the weather deteriorates and a referee feels a field has become unplayable, they have the right to call the game and at that point the field will be marked as closed.  By the same token, if a coach feels the field is unsafe, in spite of the fact that the referee is comfortable, the coach has the right to bring their concerns to the referee.  Note that the referee will still have the final say, and if the coach is unable to sway the referee, and refuses to take the field against the referee’s instructions, they will forfeit the game.  Although fields can be changed from open to closed status as the day goes on, fields will not be changed from closed to open status, even if the weather improves.

If a parent is unhappy with the idea of their child playing in the rain, cold, heat, or any other weather situation, then they should keep them at home.  Note that registration fees are not refunded for weather-related situations.  Parents should always check the nsysa.org website shortly before leaving for their game if the weather is questionable.
