Volunteers

Volunteers

Please note that NSYSA is a volunteer organization.  The coaches, the board members, the concession stand folks, every single one is a volunteer (translation: not getting paid) who is giving THEIR time to ensure that YOUR child has a positive experience.  As fabulous and hard-working as our coaches, board members and concession stand folks are, we cannot do it all ourselves.  We need you.  We need folks to coach 50 teams.  We need folks to help line 4 fields.  At the very least, we need all parents to take a shift to run the concession stand - for one hour per season.  One hour.

Coaches:
Training is available.  We do not just throw folks out on the field with a group of kids and wish them luck.  We arrange for classes (run by the state soccer association) so that they will have all the education that they need.  Some classes are free, and we provide tuition reimbursement to NSYSA coaches for those classes that are not free.  We also have meetings in town with our coaches to ensure that they have all the information that they need.  We even have a board member dedicated to the training and development of our coaches.  To volunteer for coaching during fall recreation, register online as a coach when you register your child.

Field and Equipment:
Training is available.  We do not just throw folks out on the field with a can of paint and wish them luck.  You can do this once a year or you can do it on a regular basis - whatever works for you.  To volunteer for field lining, send a note to volunteers@nsysa.org.

Concession stand:
Training is available.  We do not just throw folks into the stand with gloves and a cash register and wish them luck.  You will not be alone in the stand (there is a board member in the building at all times during game days), and you will be shown how to run the register and what the prices are for all items.  Each week, a different age group is responsible for running the stand.  When it is your age group, please do your part.  You can do this once a year or you can do it on a regular basis - whatever works for you.  To volunteer for concession stand duty, send a note to concession@nsysa.org  (note that during the season, we will have a calendar here for folks to input their own hours for volunteering).

High school volunteers:
When North Smithfield soccer players (high school or college) need community service hours, we are happy to have them.  We have many U6 teams and many of those coaches are new and inexperienced.  We pair up experienced teenage players with responsible adult coaches, and it is a winning combination.  The coaches gain experience, the teenagers think the U6 players are so cute, and the U6 players think the teenagers are so cool.  Everybody wins.  To volunteer for the U6 teen volunteer program, send a note to volunteers@nsysa.org.

To volunteer for anything else - anything at all - send a note to volunteers@nsysa.org.
