What is Winter/Spring Select?
The second session of Winter Indoor, as well as the Spring Competitive session are referred to as "Select". Players are selected for the teams based upon their playing level and ability which was rated in the NSYSA Fall session. Registration for Select teams is limited to those players that are chosen to play. The winter indoor session is held at The Hab in Uxbridge while spring competitive outdoor games are held at the NSYSA fields at NSES (home games) or at various locations throughout Rhode Island for away games.
Winter Indoor Sessions
There are two winter indoor sessions, where players from different towns play against each other in a competitive environment.
NSYSA as an organization is not involved with the first indoor session although many NSYSA coaches do decide to register teams of their own choosing to play during this session. Since it is not an NSYSA sanctioned session, a players level, ability and ranking are not relevant to the team selection by the coach. It is entirely their discretion as to who is asked to play. Games are played at two local establishments; The Habitat for Sports in Uxbridge and Wide World of Indoor Sports in North Smithfield. Coaches are free to register and play in either establishment for first session but they do so on their own, with no sponsorship or assistance from NSYSA.
The second session of indoor, as well as the Spring Competitive session (aka "Select") are for the competitive teams of NSYSA. The winter indoor session is currently held at The Hab in Uxbridge but can change year to year. The teams wear competitive NSYSA uniforms.
Spring Competitive (Select) Season
The spring competitive season is organized and run by The Superliga. Competitive (Select) teams playing in 2nd session indoor continue on to play outdoors in the travel league. Home games are played at the NSYSA fields located at NSES (same as fall rec.) while away games are played in other Rhode Island towns.
